Volunteers Requested for the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority’s City Stream Watch Program

I am happy to invite residents to volunteer for an exciting new opportunity with the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA).

The 2018 City Stream Watch Program includes Poole Creek and Cody Creek, and will run from June 11th, 2018 until August 10th, 2018.

For this assessment, the MVCA will have volunteers working closely with experienced staff members, out in hip waders surveying the stream. Groups will be wading up the stream taking detailed measurements and site characteristics every 100m. Each group will be made up of 2-3 volunteers and 1-2 staff members. The stream surveys will be running from 9am-3pm or 5pm- dusk (weekdays only), which includes meeting at the site, training, putting equipment on, hiking to the creek and completing the survey.

Schedules will be based on what days volunteers are available to come out, and the MVCA will do their very best to accommodate everyone’s preferences! The program offers excellent hands on and educational experience while at the same time giving you a chance to meet new people and give back to nature!

Anyone interested in this opportunity is encouraged to email Monitoring@mvc.on.ca with their
