This week, 47 Ottawa teenagers from 16 high schools and their volunteer mentors of Engineers, Scientists, and Computer Programmers, boarded a bus and embarked for the USA to compete in the World’s Robotics Competition!

After competing in Regionals, Provincials, and Nationals, this local team will be competing head to head on a special playing field with their winning robot ‘Mergio’ which they designed, built and programmed in Kanata.

This team, called “Merge Robotics 2706” has already won the coveted award of “Engineering Inspiration” by the governing body, “First”, which is a worldwide robotics organization that has been running competitions for 20 years.

The young engineers are supported by dedicated Merge Robotics Mentors who want to inspire teenagers to become leaders in science, technology, and engineering. Their slogan is we don’t just build robots, we build people”.

Congratulations to the team for all of their hard work and good luck in the competition! Already, after their first two matches, the team is undefeated and ranked 14th in their division! Follow their progress at
