This week is Ottawa’s 32nd annual Capital Pride Festival and I have been honoured to join both Ottawa Public Health and City Hall as we raise the rainbow-flag in support of inclusivity and LGBTQ+ events happening around the city!
Our LGBT members are an important part of our communities and Pride is the special time of year where they may celebrate their individuality, come together and have some fun in safe, inclusive spaces.
Events have been happening all week but it is not too late to celebrate. The annual Capital Pride parade will take place on Sunday, August 27, starting at 1:30 p.m. Following the parade, festival goers can enjoy the Capital Pride community fair on Bank Street, between Somerset Street West and Florence Street. Street closures in this area will be in effect between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m.
I highly encourage all residents to come out and celebrate the diversity of our communities. Our right to express ourselves in whatever ways we identify is part of what makes being Canadian such an incredible thing. Let us take this opportunity to let our LGBTQ+ friends, family members, and neighbours know that we love and respect them.
