Residents are invited by the Alzheimer Society of Ottawa to attend the annual “Walk For Alzheimer’s” on the morning of Saturday, May 13. This year, the event takes place at Tunney’s Pasture.
At the present time, approximately 20,000 people in our community live with dementia and this number is expected to double in 10 years. More than 40,000 caregivers are providing thousands of hours of help each year with the journey of dementia being one of the hardest roads a family will ever walk.
Registration opens at 8 a.m. with a group warm up at 9 a.m. and the Walk starts immediately afterwards. Thanks to community participation, over 1,000 participants raised over $400,000 at last year’s event and this year, the Alzheimer’s Society is hoping to see the same tremendous show of support.
Residents can register now at www.alzheimerottawa.ca to join or form a team or sponsor someone who is participating www.walkforalzheimers.ca (our local Alzheimer Society’s team – comprised of staff and volunteers is called The Brainy Bunch.)
I hope that all interested residents are available to participate in this extremely worthwhile event.
