Report Hate Crimes with OPS

The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) is pleased to announce that it has added the ability to report hate crimes, using its online reporting system.

A hate crime is a criminal offence committed against a person or property which is motivated by hate/bias or prejudice based on race, national or ethnic origin, language, colour, religion, sex, age, mental or physical disability, sexual orientation, or any other similar factor.

Each report received will be reviewed by an analyst and then directed to the appropriate departments for further investigation and resolution.

As Chair of Crime Prevention Ottawa, I would like to invite all residents to make use of this new reporting tool whenever they witness crimes committed based on grounds of discrimination.

I hope that this new initiative helps in reducing such incidents before they occur. For more information on reporting hate crimes to OPS, please visit: https://www.ottawapolice.ca/en/about-us/hate-crime-unit.asp
