With the warmer weather now approaching, I would like to remind residents to be cautious and avoid stepping out onto unmaintained frozen bodies of water.
The National Capital Commission (NCC) has announced this week that the Rideau Canal Skateway will be closed for the remainder of the City.
Likewise, frozen ponds such as stormwater management facilities can be tempting to play or fish on but are dangerous as fluctuating water levels and the variety of water run-offs can affect temperature and cause the ice to crack and break.
If you are sad that you may not have gotten your skating fix in yet for the year, do not fret! The City offers a variety of open skate programs at local facilities such as the Goulbourn Recreation Complex.
