Councillor’s View – Stittsville Food Bank Initiatives

Dear Residents,

I would like to thank all residents who participated in this year’s Annual OC Transpo/Loblaws Christmas Food Drive.

A total of 108,496 non-perishable items were collected across the City of Ottawa with almost 10,000 items raised by the Stittsville Food Bank. Stittsville also contributed almost $1,800 to the fundraiser, bringing the City’s grand total to $32,315 in cash and food vouchers for local food banks.

I would like to thank OC Transpo, Loblaws staff, the volunteers who helped with the fundraiser and the community their unwavering generosity. It is thanks to residents and their support for Ottawa Food Bank initiatives that this great program is able to continue to help the hungry in our City who need it most.

I had a lot of fun working in the bus helping to collect items with the volunteers over the weekend and look forward to next year’s event.

Remember that tax receipts are issued by the Food Bank for residents who donate $15 or more. If you missed the event, the Stittsville Food Bank is still gearing up to spread Christmas Cheer with their annual Christmas Hampers. If you would like to help them bring the Christmas spirit to those who need a helping hand, here are some of the ways you can donate this year.

Food Donations can be made in a few different ways:

Choose an ornament off of the holiday food tree located at Brown’s Your Independent Grocers. These ornaments allow you to donate perishable and non-perishables easily as you just pay for it with your regular groceries.

Small non-perishable donations can be donated with the drop-off bins at the following locations:

  • Walmart,5357 Fernbank Road;
  • Food Basics, 5703 Hazeldean Road;
  • Brown’s Independent Grocers, 1251 Stittsville Main Street;
  • Sobey’s Grocery Store, 6315 Hazeldean Road, off Carp Road;
  • Giant Tiger, 6081 Hazeldean Road, Jackson Trails Mall;
  • Goulbourn Recreation Complex, 1500 Shea Road, outside my ward office; and
  • Pottery Playhouse, 1300 Stittsville Main Street

For larger donations and perishable donations please contact the Food Bank by calling 613-831-0451 or emailing

For gifts for the children, please visit an Angel Tree located at Holy Spirit Catholic Church and St. Thomas Anglican Church to choose a child, or you can drop off a gift card to the Food Bank on Monday’s between 3-5pm or by appointment.

Monetary donations are always helpful as well. The Stittsville Food Bank uses these donations for purchasing items not donated through other means so that each family receives everything they need for a wonderful Christmas. If you are interested in making a monetary donation, you can do so by mail or in person by appointment. The address for mailed donations is: Stittsville Food Bank, PO Box 878, Stittsville, ON K2S 1B1.  Appointments for donations can be made by either calling 613-831-0451 or emailing

Thanks to all those who help make this a magical time of year. For more information, please visit
