On Tuesday November 8th, I attended an onsite construction update for the West Transitway Extension. Preliminary work for the West Transitway Extension began in spring 2015 with the Stillwater Culvert Extension along Corkstown Road. The project will extend the Transitway from Bayshore Station to Moodie Drive where a new transit station will be built. Both will be in use by the end of 2017.
This new portion of the Transitway will separate buses from regular traffic and provide more reliable service between downtown and communities in the west end. As well, it is an integral part of the Stage 2 LRT project that will extend the Confederation Line from Tunney’s Pasture to Bayshore Shopping Centre by 2023. As part of the project, pedestrian and cycling infrastructure will be built along Corkstown Road, and a segment of noise barriers will be built along the north side of Highway 417.
The cost for the project, including design and construction is $47.7 million. For information about changes to transit service during construction you may visit octranspo.com.
