Former Deputy City Manager Steve Kanellakos returned to work at the City of Ottawa this week as City Manager.
Mr. Kanellakos, who left Ottawa a year ago to take a position as the City Manager of Vaughan in the Greater Toronto Area, was unanimously appointed to the position by City Council on February 8.
Mr. Kanellakos has served in municipal public service for more than 30 years, starting in the former Gloucester Police Department 1985. He began working for the City of Ottawa in 2000. As Deputy City Manager for City Operations from 2008 to 2015, he was responsible for the majority of the City’s workforce.
I have fortunately had the chance to sit down with Steve this week to discuss Stittsville’s place in the larger Ottawa area and my expectations for the future to ensure all residents will be represented with the needs of different communities. The city is made up of a variety of types of neighbourhoods and we will be working together to help make Ottawa the best it can be. I have also discussed with interest to Ottawa Public Health and Crime Prevention Ottawa (the boards on which I chair) to outline present items we are working towards to help make our city healthy and safe.
Welcome back, Steve. I look forward to working with you once again.
